I retired from my career as a Neonatal ICU RN 8/2023. I have 4 grown daughters, 1 young adult grandson and 5 other grandkids, all are local.
I have been a maker since I was old enough to make. Started sewing about 8 years old, macramed as a child, dabbled in knitting and crochet.
I was always interested in mechanical things as well and tried my best as the youngest of 5 kids to learn from my brothers. Had one sister who was 7 years older.
Have always wanted to learn woodworking and looked into courses in other cities/states some 10 ish years ago. Want to turn bowls and maybe build a chair.
In my post raising kids era, I really dove into craft workshops. I spent the longest time with basket weaving. I made many shapes, styles, and sizes of them.
I also was a member of the Weavers and Spinners of Austin, I tried out all of the arts/crafts under that umbrella for about 5 years and still have 2 floor looms, one 28” and the other is 36 “. Also have LOTS of yarn.
I also explored mosaics, stained glass, copper foiled glass, fused glass; really love cutting glass.
I still like to knit and crochet but am no expert. Was tired of making blankets so I have a shrug I started knitting and am determined to finish. I enjoy the mostly mindless, repetition of knitting, The mindless part is why my work is imperfectly perfect!
I sewed a lot in earlier years and need to dust off my machines. Also did a bit of machine embroidery and even less, but some, hand embroidery.
I have done some jewelry making as well and would love to cast in sterling but have not found or made the opportunity.
Would love to learn clay throwing
Well I could rattle on but that’s plenty
