I Love to make all the things!
My specialty is working at a torch with borosilicate glass creating intricate pendants, esp. underwater scenes, & mermaids . Been working at that for 20+ yrs. I also assisted 2 master glass blowers in a traditional hot-shop for many years. I still drink every day out of my favorite mug I made back then.
I have always made jewelry. Starting with stringing beads… but these days rather make beads. I like doing wire wraps and I have a huge collection of gems and minerals. Should you need some hit me up.
In the last few years I have gotten into electroforming. Moving copper around with electricity to create intricate jewelry combining my glass are with gemstones.
I have always loved sewing. I like to make reversible hats, and I make a good amount of my own clothes. About a year ago I bought an embroidery machine exactly like the one we have in the textile room! Lately I’ve been working on learning to create embroidery files as well as other file formats I use like SVG.
I was a member when we were hacker space for three or four years, but I’ve been gone for about two. I love working with the laser engravers, and I’m very excited to take the class to use the big guys. like to make jewelry pieces… often out of scrap you leave…(Thanks!)
I am looking forward into getting into instrument making. As I have become a bit of a multi instrumentalist these days and I want to combine my love of music, laser skills and glass art into pieces of art that sound as good as they look. If you have interest in making musical instruments let’s talk about possible collaboration. I plan to take the class for the router soon to cut out instrument bodies for Electric stringed instruments. Though I prefer cutting wood with intelligent technology that my fingers do not get close to the cutting device. Love to work with those comfortable in the woodworking shop. May be willing to work hard for/collaborate with a master luthier should you know one.
I’ve also gotten into learning to create designs of all the various formats I work in… most recently digitized a couple of my own designs for the embroidery machine. Pretty exciting as I didn’t even realize embroidery file formats existed until about a year ago.
As far as music goes. I sing and play many instruments. (My preferred axe is a banjolele… she’s about 100-year-old love child between a banjo and a ukulele. Sometimes I play gigs. I have a soulful voice And can belt out a tune at the drop of a hat. Out around the campfires at Festivals I am known as Helcat.
I dropped out of an Ohio high school & followed the Grateful Dead 1990-95. I would not have learned half of what I know had I not made that choice. GD101!
I would like to collaborate on:
Musical instruments, kaleidoscope making, rebuild of my teardrop camper.
I look forward to connecting with Y’all!
Happy Day!
