I didn’t find .0625" plate in my shop. Let me know if you find some at Westbrook. There should be plenty in the dropzone
I grabbed an approx 7.625 x 34 piece in Westbrook’s drop section. I’ve put an SVG in the drive: Strike plate 7.625 x 12.svg - Google Drive
I exported it at 96 dpi. I’d be curious to know if that’s the magic number for that. My vector editor defaults to 300 dpi, which causes problems on eg. the vinyl cutter.
I can pick up the plate this weekend
Thanks to Joe’s laser cut blanks, I think this is going to work! I was able to bend the plate with clamps. There’s no visible wear on the 3D printed dies. I just need to deburr the edges and counter sink the screw holes a bit!
One slight adjustment: I printed some dies with an over-bend of 5 degrees, to counter spring-back when released.
Clamp bend
Resulting bend
Compared to 3D printed mock up, the angle is great
In place
The bench vise turns out to be perfect for this because it conveniently misses the locating pins. After doing a dozen of these there is a little marking on the die where the edge hits it, but no damage. I think this techniques of 3D printing dies is pretty robust.
@aneel May I have your stl file for the bending jig. I realize I have the same issue.
I’ve uploaded the latest (v18) version of all of the files here: Strike Plate - Google Drive
And I made a Thing for it: Dies for bending doorknob strike plates by aneel - Thingiverse
Awesome thank you . Have you had chance to install them?
