Woodshop Glue-Ups OK this weekend?

Saw that the Woodshop will be closed this weekend. Can I still Glue something up and leave it in the Glue-Up area today/overnight?

Please do not leave any glue ups. It is very likely all tables will be moved around and I don’t want anyone needing to move someone else’s project.

If you’ve already left it, please consider grabbing it in the morning and helping us prepare! There will be plenty of food to keep us going.

Anything left will likely be moved as careful as can be.

Not sure if you are aware most glues and most instances set in about 45 minutes. Meaning you can take the clamps off. However the items are not ready to be machined but they can be moved. You could consider getting your own clamps. Pipe clamps are not overly expensive. Home Depot has a long piece of 3/4 gas pipe that they can cut and thread for free. 30” is a good all purpose length. Pick the 3/4” pipe though. 1/2” is not as sturdy as you may think but it does the job at the 30ish length. They also have the clamps sets. Usually two per package. Pipe clamps are old fashioned for a lot of people but they are sturdy and will last a lifetime as long as you don’t beat them up with hammers.

Hello - I am responding to this because I too was in the middle of a project, I had a glue up standing in the corner and all of my Materials clamped up.. when I came back after the weekend, all of my personal clamps were put away, my materials were put into free bin, and my glue up is missing.

Does anyone know who moved the mahogany materials that were stored near the hand tools? They were completely out of the way. My information was taped to them, with some small bags of personal items which I cannot locate.

There were signs posted all over the wood shop, multiple discourse posts, and multiple personal text messages (including on the deadline) sent to every person who had project materials in the wood shop that all personal items must be removed from the wood shop no later than February 14th.

The messages included the potential that if they were not removed, the person risked having the materials and/or personal items removed. If it was possible to find a place to store them we would do our best, however there was no guarantee they would not be disposed of to accommodate our work of disassembling the old DC, and the installation of the new one.

If you failed to comply with the requests and requirements, while I personally feel sad that you may have forfeited your materials, it was ultimately your responsibility to safely remove them. To the best of my knowledge, there were only three individuals who failed to remove their materials, two in the sheet storage rack, and one leaning against the wall.

Regarding bags of personal items, they were placed on the Lost & Found shelf in the hallway outside the laser room.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me at michael.doto@asmbly.org or my personal cell which you already have from my text messages to you regarding your project materials in the wood shop.

@Anthony_Long I left you a voicemail. To put some of that in writing, if you recognize some of your clamps from our clamp rack, grab them. That’s probably where they ended up.

As for your materials, I remember seeing some nice milled up mahogany pieces and by the time I saw them there was no label on them. I’m not sure where they were picked up from and truthfully I’m not sure exactly where they landed. Look around the panel storage, and the project storage areas. This is currently a holding ground for pipes, but that should all be cleared out within a week.

I believe we spoke and I asked to not have any pieces staying behind before the big weekend. I believe you are a new member as well and I apologize that you are experiencing some frustrations on your first project here. Completely clearing out the wood shop is not a normal thing for us. I’m sure we’ll be able to find where everything ended up.
