I’ve talked about my boat project here before (Ars Technica forum thread here: Build Thread: 20' Pontoon Boat Refit into Solar-Electric Cruiser (Next Step: Wiring) | Ars OpenForum ) and am trying to sort out a problem with the potentiometers controlling the motor PWMs. Basically, you start at the bottom of the range, slide up, motors go faster – good so far. Then about 75%-85% of the way through, it peaks and decelerates rapidly until you get to the other side and it stops.
What’s causing this behavior? Anyone have experience with this kind of hardware? TIA.
Is there a part number for the potentiometers? I once had a someone similar problem with a potentiometer controlling motors using pwm. The potentiometers were rotary potentiometers that spun all the way around, but were only active for 330 deg out of 360. So, if angled incorrectly when installed they wouldn’t give useful values for a 30 degree zone. Not sure if this is relevant to your problem.
