Vacuum Labeling

How many shop vacs do we have at Asmbly? If you guessed 10 then you and I counted the same! 8 in the woodshop, 1 in the laser room, and 1 in textiles. All shop vacs have been labeled and had their filters checked today!

Most vacuums are in good order, however I’m ordering a few new filters and bags to replace a few of them (including the small vacuum in the textiles room).

If you happen to have any issue with any of them, please shout out and reference the number (or letter) on the label. They’re all right next to the power button.

When using these, don’t forget to check the buckets and make sure they don’t come close to full.

I’m also aware that a number of the bucket lids have seals that are coming loose. More to follow!

Happy vacuuming (your space and surrounding spaces. Get rid of all that dust!)

And this is a used filter vs a new filter. This wasn’t even the dustiest one I found today!

There are also four vacuums in the metal shop. The two with metal canisters are general purpose; the two orange ones are for aluminum only. All are labeled with this info. None have bags or filters, so they aren’t good for dust, but that in turn means they can be used as wet vacs (since we frequently have to vacuum up stuff mixed with lubricoolants). (If they begin to smell of mildew as a result of those fluids, let a metal shop steward know and we will empty and sanitize it. (Stewards: Lysol spray is available in the machine shop cabinet.))

They can be used and left anywhere appropriate, but their usual (default) locations are: between the mills (aluminum only), by the cold saw (general purpose), to the right of the lathe (aluminum only), and to the left of the lathe, under the table (general purpose). They should generally be left plugged in for ease of use.
