Vacuum carts

Is there any thought about building new carts for vacuums, perhaps not broken or wobbly?

Perhaps there is a CNC pattern for this somewhere.

At least one of the vacuums was moved to a steadier cart a few months ago, so a design exists. Find out who made it, get the design, and make more.

Michael and I don’t know either. I’d like to help with this project if we can find the CNC plans. If you haven’t already, you might try asking in Slack.

I think @ewei designed the new cart.

Just following the conversation, and wondering what the new cart looks like. Can someone take a picture it and add it here.

The file is in Fusion on the gp1@asmbly.org login, as well as Google Drive I believe. There were some proposed modifications like moving the hose reel to the side. The prototype was made out of remnant plywood which I don’t have more of, so the design will have to be updated for whatever thickness plywood is sourced, as the joinery depends on a friction fit.

If someone wants to take this on, I’m happy to meet with them!

Here is the prototype cart:

And here is the revision with the insert plate for accessories and side mounted hose reel:

I like the hose reel on the side.

Low center of gravity and rigid frame–GOOD!

Is anything needed to hold the dust bin in place? If so, maybe holes for a bungie cord or strap?

Perfect! If its feasible I’d suggest we use clear buckets for the cyclone. That way everyone can see when it’s getting full.

Something like this perhaps. Less than $10 each:

Gem, that is a very smart idea.
And given the new trash handling, would it make sense to use small trash bags in those, like in the bigger trash cans?

You can’t put a bag in there without some trickyness, because it’s under negative pressure the bag would just collapse.

I think the bagged trash situation is only temporary.

Ah, well nm on the bags!

If you really want sturdy and plan for long term life, a metal frame fabrication would be the best option. The torsion that the carts are exposed to when moving, eventually will break the joints if made out of plywood. It could be made sturdier but normally it means bulkier. So metal frame and better wheels would be a nicer long term solution. Now if you want to go over the top, eliminate (use PVC pipe) or shorten the hose connection between the shop vac and the separator to eliminate hose clutter protruding around the cart.

Man I really need to take that MIG welding class (or TIG). Since we have designs at the ready, I suggest we go with plywood now and look at making a metal version in the future.
