Spindle Sander Teardown

I’m planning on tearing down the spindle sander Wednesday evening to determine what parts we need. If you want to see the guts, provide entertainment, or just moral support, feel free to come by

FYI the spindle sander has a gear box that is somewhat full of gear oil. You should be fine as long as you don’t tip it over. If you have to drain the oil there is a drain valve on the left side under the oil level sight glass. You have to open the rear door to gain access. If you do drain it, have on hand 2 Qts. 90 wt. gear oil. Don’t forget to refill it before starting the machine. If you do, more than likely you will mess up some gears. Also, there maybe a left handed thread on a shaft or bolt. I know Jet models have it, not sure if Delta followed the trend. Not an easy job you’re taking on. Good luck!

Diagnosis confirmed, it needs a bearing… but it did not ruin the shaft. You can see some discoloration which shows just how hot it was.

The suspected reason this occured was due to a missing dust cap which protects the bearing.

Thanks Jose! I did find some left hand threads in there!
