Small CNC Z axis not working

Just finished the first of two cuts on the small CNC and the router tried returning to safe z but only got .5 inches up before stopping. Now Z axis only goes down and will not go higher than .5 above my surface. Anyone know if this is a simple fix? Doesn’t look like anything is mechanically blocking it and the controller says the limit is reached

Perhaps try to restart the machine? It should keep your home position

Try what @gordoa40 said. It could be loose screw allowing the z screw to lose steps

A few of us at the shop were troubleshooting but couldn’t figure it out. Home was reset in the process by accident but after trying everything else we restarted the machine and it was working again.

Just for future reference, restarting machine keeps home for XY?

yes, it keeps home for x/y. Obviously can’t be counted on to be that way the next day but it holds the most recent home in memory until it is changed

It did that while @jamesfreeman was teaching us how to use the machine. It skipped then didn’t want to go back up.

Can’t remember now what he did to get it back

Reboot foxed it that time.
