first time using the small cnc after taking the class last week. the controller wont read the usb drive. tried a couple different usb’s and had someone experienced try and help too but the controller just says no file in working directory. tried turning it off and on a couple of times but no go
Sadly the current controllers only read USB 2 thumb drives which most of us don’t tote around any more. The common solution is to transfer your files to the USB 2 thumb drives that @jamesfreeman has made available. Sounds like you tried that and it failed too. My next attempt would have been to blow compressed air into the connectors to clear them out. That might have done it.
Just an FYI. The way to distinguish USB drives visually is by looking into the connector at the color of the plastic. If it’s blue then it’s USB 3; black indicates older versions. The current controllers only read thumb drives with black inside.
BTW, good news is that @bwatt is working to get us onto new controllers.
