Progress Post: 7ft Breath of the Wild Sheikah Tower

I mentioned awhile ago in my intro post that I was working on a 7ft Sheikah tower. After being away for 3 weeks on vacation, I’m finally making a dent again!

I need to print at least 3-5 more tower sections for full height. Then there’s a center column I need to print 3-4 more of. Each of those prints is 11 and 9 hours each, respectively.

Then the base and top platform. The base alone is 6 Prusa XL prints, one of which will take an entire spool to itself.

I’m printing with ‘fuzzy skin’ to hide layer lines and give it that more ‘rocky’ texture like in the game. Should minimize bulk sanding and priming, other than where I’ll need wood fill for seams.

The core will light up with 3 5-6’ runs of LEDs, making it a functional lamp as well!

Here’s a couple of progress posts. Coke can for scale.

This is great. Are you going to light it?

Yep! Printed my first core section last night, walls are thin enough where they need to be for light to transmit and thick enough elsewhere to give it the pattern.

Re-enforcing the center with a 5-6ft long, 1 1/2" aluminum pipe. Add some rigidity and also heatsync away the 3 LED strips that will be mounted to it.

I’m using this guy’s model scaled up 400%
