Optimizing towards finishing your project

Ran across this video and thought it might resonate with the group. The main point is that personal projects should be optimized with one goal: finishing the project.

FYI, the author does videos about guided high power amateur rocketry (that was a mouthful!):

That was a really fun video, thanks for sharing!

I am a big believer that progress should be prioritized over perfection when it comes to the first iteration of any project. Or at least that is how I justify my ever changing project interests to myself…

But you really do learn from your mistakes and past projects when it comes to future efforts. I’m working on a presentation on my maker journey during 2024 that I’m hoping to share during the upcoming maker showcase.

That was a really enjoyable video! Thank you for sharing it.

I agree with @SteveW that during the initial iteration(s) progress over perfection is key. My moto as I build beyond that is “it’s not what you make, it’s how you make it.” It reminds me that accuracy and care is the standards I aspire too—not perfection—which will be revealed in the final product.

I like that motto Michael, however I hope you don’t mind if I modify it for my purposes: “it’s not what you make, it’s that you make it.”

Both are good, I just have to be more motivated to actually do things at all sometimes rather than to do it well

P.S. love Joe from BPS Space. Great example of the engineering process and a great communicator, as well as safety advocate

Just watched that this morning! Maybe that’s a good resolution for me next year…
