I filed an issue using the QR code on the metal lathe but wanted to post here just to make sure it got addressed. While I was using it, the handle to control the lathe fell off and made it impossible to turn the lathe on or off. I turned off the main disconnect on the back of it and left a piece of tape over the switch saying “Control Handle is Broken” but wanted to make sure this got addressed/is tracked so no one attempts to turn it on in such a state.
The handle is an ongoing minor nuisance; I re-attached it hurriedly on Wednesday (during a class) after it being OK for a few months. It’s an oddball mechanism; not too hard to fix but somewhat tricky to figure out if you haven’t done it before.
But it’s also not needed at all to run the lathe. All the handle does is turn a rod that flips a lever at the right end of the lathe in or out. You can move that lever manually. Push that lever in to start the lathe. As always, stop the lathe with the brake. Then go back into neutral by pulling that lever to the middle position. (The full out position, which is reverse, is physically blocked.)
His wording gives me the impression that he stopped the lathe using the main power switch instead of the brake. So please put the lever back in neutral before turning the main power back on.
The handle has been put back on. It will certainly fall off again sometime.
