Hearing Protection

Hi y’all, I’m deaf in one ear and need to be better about hearing protection in the woodshop. I like listening to music/podcasts while I work. Typically, I like earbuds with the ear hooks, but I don’t know how feasible that is in this context. Do y’all have recommendations for hearing protection? It’s real important for me so I’m willing to splurge, too.

It’s not uncommon to see 3M Worktunes around the space, that’s what I have.

I second the vote for 3m work tunes. Robust, cheap, and the battery last forever. The stock version hurt my ears after several hours. However, they sell better gel earcups that hold the headphones further from the head. For me, the upgraded ear cups are two thumbs up. The sound isolation is extremely good.

I know several people have iso tunes. They sell a few ear bud versions. They didn’t fit in my ear very well and I didn’t love the sound quality. They do stand behind the return policy.

I used a pair of monitor earbuds for many years. Specifically the Shure se215. They are designed for concerts so the sound isolation is very good. I don’t think they are OSHA rated but I can assure you they would pass. Shure has fabulous sound quality.

I too am deaf in one ear. I typically wear my Airpods (in both ears regardless of my disability) with noise cancelling enabled since I’m an iPhone owner.

I’ll recommend Shokz, bone conduction headphones that sit closer to your temple + traditional ear plugs. I love mine and have turned on a few family members to them as well. Also great for when you’re watching young kids

Thanks everyone!
