I couldn’t find any info about what materials are allowed to be cut in the wood shop. Can I use the mitre saw or panel saw to cut 0.75" thick Hardie Board, or is that a no-no because of the dust? If allowed, is there a blade on-hand for me to use?
I’m just a member, not a steward or anything, but I wouldn’t use power tools indoors to cut hardie board or anything that generates silica dust. If it isn’t a rule, I could see it becoming one. I know there are similar rules for pressure treated wood.
I don’t know everything. I assume it is a no. You also need a special blade for cutting Hardie Board.
Is a no go. If you ever done it before, it creates a cloud of dust that sticks or clings to everything and you’ll be cleaning for days. It will dull regular blades almost right away unless you have the special kind design to cut it. You could do it outside but I hate it for any cars parked in the area. Look up You tube there are other ways you can cut hardie board.
Makes sense. I’ll do some research and see what my options are. Thanks for your response.
Another rule of thumb. If you need a respirator, take it outside. If you need one, everyone else needs one.
I did some volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and they had a special shear that would cut it. Check a rental center?
I saw a YouTube video where they just scored it with a sharp knife and snapped it cleanly. Seems that would be the easiest with the least dust so I can do it in my back yard.
