Here’s a picture of a National metal acoustic guitar. They used steel or nickel plated brass. Looking at this picture, can anyone tell how the designs would likely have been etched. I’m guessing acid.

According to Vintage guitar magazine it’s actually a negative sandblasted image made with one of a number of jigs that wear out over time (kinda like a mint striking plate for coins). However, looking at some of the models they sell today, a few of them appear to be acid etched (much darker etch pattern than the one in your photo).
