We are working to expand our glazes possibilities, and trouble shoot some supplying issues when it comes to the glazes the studio offers with no cost added.
As we move towards a model with more dipping glazes offered, we will require members to be more vigilant about practices, because dipping glazes can be contaminated by a member not following correct procedures while using them.
we were offering an option of commercial dipping glaze sold by Armadillo. This glaze is not performing to standard, as it is currently cracking (see image on the post). Whereas the cracks are really beautiful, they do not offer a food safe option for members. That is why, once the bucket of clear glaze that is in the studio is finished, we will not replenish it. We are studying new options and will be offering in the next month a clear glaze dipping as soon as we have it tested.
Members will still have the option of using their own clear glaze from the Potter’s Choice, Celadon and Matte lines, that are pre-tested. Celadon Mixing Clear C-11 is a great option, and it is carried in the shop.
We urge members to only use the dipping glaze when the piece is completely dry from other glazes. Our current glaze has to be cleaned off of small particles/contaminants due to inadequate dipping procedures
We will not be replenishing the Matte line anymore, and will move towards offering a few Potters Choice options on the house. Members can already see a tube of Blue Rutile that was recently bought, and we are bringing 5 more Potters Choice options.
So, tell us which are your 3 favorite Potters Choice glazes?
We will try to carry 6 of the most popular ones always in the shop.
Hello, @cgeorgoulis !
I saw you filed a problem report about the clear glaze being too low.
Unfortunately, Armadillo is discontinuing that one and it is cracking sometimes, which means it is not food safe.
We are creating another clear glaze dipping option and will be launching it next month, but for now, members can use Amaco Mixing Clear C-11 which is provided in the shop, until we test a new clear dipping.
Have a look at the post above, and please send me a message if you have more questions!
When we have a glaze running low, it would be awesome to have a backup on hand too. I have personally invested in my own glazes due to many at the studio being consistently low. Often making it difficult to glaze more than 1-2 pieces at a time.
The crazing on the glaze can happen for so many reasons too, and often I have seen it related to how it’s applied, and being too thick. I personally haven’t had any crazing using the current clear, which is the main studio glaze I use. This may be a topic that we can recommend people seek assistance with during the steward on duty hours
Hello, Chelsey!
We have already included Cosmic Tea Dust and Temmoku in our poll about Potter’s Choice glazes to carry in the shop.
We will see if we have space to include Textured Turquoise too, it’s just as we have some very popular blues to compete with, like Blue Rutile…
But you can always use any of your favorites today: these are glazes we allow in the shop, we just may not carry it on a regular base.
We will also be releasing some PC glazes to be used in the shop in the next week.
Stay tunned!
