We started in the wood shop clearing out all the materials stored in the new racks location and cleaning up. There was a significant amount of untagged plywood that was basically Swiss cheese with small area of usable plywood remaining. What was usable was cut off and placed in the scrap cart and the rest placed in the dumpster. There were also some untagged full sheets and partial sheets that were set aside and will be claimed for future Asmbly projects. If you have left one untagged and can demonstrate its yours, please contact me at Michael.doto@asmbly.org and I will make you can take it home. One individual claimed 3 or 4 sheets while we were still there.

Another group began measuring and cutting the 24’ metal tubes into the various length required in the metal shop. Another group began the messy task of cleaning the steel and deburring the ends in preparation for welding.

Julie, Al and James took on the initial job of welding with John pitching in after cutting all the stock. It was amazing to watch so many people working in harmony, talking and laughing the whole time. 90 percent of the work was completed in the metal shop and the final job of restocking of the new rack will be completed on Monday. At some point, we may need to paint the rack to prevent rust.

We had nice refueling lunch of Tacos and thanks to James, drinks to accompany them—yes, I forgot to buy drinks.

Please join me in giving these people a well-deserved thank you! It was long, hard and dirty job; however, I cannot imagine doing it with a better group of people.

Thank you everyone,

Michael Doto

Excellent!! I’m bummed I missed out on this one. When @Johnvaughn first described the rack in concept I was pretty excited and seeing it come together with everyone’s help is so great!

Well done all!
