The remaining part of the screw should come out rather easy using the tip of your finger to unscrew it. All the ones i have broken came out using that tequnique (about ten or so..). The screw once is not torqued is loose in its housing. There are spare ones in a bin labeled jointer stuff in the Steward’s closet. There are also spare carbide inserts. Hopefully, when you switched the inserts, you took them out, cleaned the helical head, and put a dab of oil on the screw before reinstalling and torque (is outlined in the manual). Technically, all the screws are supposed or should be replaced but they are expensive and not easy to get. The ones in the bin cost me $86 and is only 30 or so (Asmbly would not order them after I asked for well over a year) and took me seven months to get after repeated contact with Laguna. If you can find that screw size elsewhere it would be great but the thing that makes them special is that they have the head undercut (that’s why they break at the joint of the head with the stem). If you use a regular head it protrudes on top of the insert and marks the stock as well as making the stock bump or ride on top of the screw instead of shearing the fibers. The screws are not the same as the planer (I think those are different thread pitch). Anyway, I was just contacted by Laguna and was told that supposedly they are turning a new page and provide more help and better service in the spare parts arena. The contact is below if anyone needs to get parts and have problems. I think in the parts box bin as you enter the Steward’s closet to your right, in one of the little bins there are some more screws. Is good that someone finally switched those inserts, I know seven weeks ago when I used the jointer, those blades were rather dull but i did not have the 45 minutes it takes me to clean the head and switch them. So thank you for that! As far as being red tagged, not too sure about it but I hope some ones sees this post and fixes it.

In case is not fixed yet. Sorry, someone told me the carbide insert was still on. Use a piece of tape on top of insert and use a chisel or screw driver to snap the insert out. Use a hammer if necessary. It should not be hard to do as more than likely the carbide is going to break. That is the reason for the tape so you don’t have to hunt down carbide pieces. Once you remove the insert follow above described tequnique.
