I’m very new to CAD/ 3D printing - this is my second print. I designed this object in Fusion and then ran it through Chitubox for the Saturn 4. The goal is to print this object and use it as a master for a silicone mold - so I’d like to to be nice and smooth as in my drawing.
The issue I’m having is that some of the smooth faces from the drawing end up faceted once into Chitubox - resulting in a print that has to be sanded down back to smooth.
Is this a print setting issue? I’ve searched but don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Should I possibly be printing this on the filament printer instead of resin?
What are you export settings coming from Fusion? Slicers cant control resolution and it looks like you could use some more polygons in that surface. Make sure to save as a mesh and export as a high res. I JUST got into fusion and resin printing here at home. I learned some of this by needing to export a model that wasnt in an STL format and i went back and forth a bit and export settings seemed to fix it.
Maybe the default settings for export are too low. I dont have my original model and i use Lychee as a slicer but you can barely see the polygons in my curves here. This is a ~4in box. I needed to take this through Fusion before bringing it into my slicer.
Apart from the faceting, it looks to me like you might want to change your model orientation in chitubox. It looks like the complex boot geometry probably needs some supports, which will be annoying to clean up. I’d suggest angling the print so the (flat?) back side is down (but not parallel to the plate) because sanding off any support stubs will be easier on a flat surface.
That design would print nicely in filament (back flat against the bed, should require zero supports, but maybe wants a brim), but the layer lines will be much more visible than in resin.
Are you planning to make a 2 part silicone mold? What do you intend to cast in that mold?
I’m planning to cast in concrete, but the filament lines are what I want to avoid. You’re spot on about supports - I ran auto supports on it and it chose that angle, but it added a ton of tiny interior supports which will be a nightmare to scrub off
